Scratchbac has raised SGD$500,000 in a pre-seed fundraise that closed early this year.

The round was led by Mistletoe Singapore and joined by angel investors like managing partner of Ondine Capital Yen-An Cho, founder of SUTD Data-Driven Lab Luo Jianxi, general manager of Kanopus Global Kenrick Fong, Rainforest CEO JJ Chai, Head of Rewards APAC eBay Sajjad Parmar, Owner of Naterra REsources Tan Ki Mien and Cofounder Monkey Creatives Melissa Neo.

For those who don’t know, Scratchbac is a proximity-based favour app that makes it easy to give or get help from the people near you. The founding team consists of the 4 of us SUTD graduates, Jerry Neo, Cheryl Low, Princeton Poh and Anantharajan Vivekbala.

The platform initially started as a Telegram bot in 2020 to bring people closer amidst the isolating pandemic. Within a year, we had 60,000 users join the bot and 50,000 interactions were enabled. A November 2021 Kickstarter campaign to raise SGD$30,000 in support of the app’s launch was also fully funded within 1 day.

Since then, we have migrated Scratchbac onto its own standalone app that launched in March 2022. This move was made to provide a more robust and reliable service for our users. Excitingly, the app already has a rapid growth rate of 1,200 users per week.

Going forward, the pre-seed funds will go into improving the app’s user experience as well as the development of new social features.

For us, Scratchbac is more than an app, we see it as a community and a safe space for everyone to form true connections. We are grateful for all the support from our users, mentors, friends and family that have helped us get to this milestone. You can be assured that this is just the beginning and we are committed to bringing to life our vision of a friendlier world where help is just around the corner.
